Solvents are liquids used to dissolve, dilute or clean in industrial, chemical and finishing processes, such as alcohols, ketones and hydrocarbons.

They combine two characteristics that demand attention: they evaporate easily and most are flammable, and vapour accumulates in enclosed spaces. Some also attack certain plastics and seals, which makes compatibility between product and container a technical decision based on the product data sheet.
